‘Present Laughter’ – Lyndhurst Drama and Musical Society – 19/20/21 July 2018
Lyndhurst Drama and Musical Society’s summer production is ‘Present Laughter’ by Noel Coward directed by Jenny Green.
Written by Coward in 1939 and first performed in 1942, the plot follows a few days in the life of the successful and self-obsessed matinee idol, Garry Essendine, as he prepares to travel for a touring commitment in Africa. Amid a series of events bordering on farce, Garry has to deal with women who want to seduce him, placate both his long-suffering secretary and estranged wife, cope with a crazed playwright, and overcome his mid-life crisis. The story was described by Coward as “a series of semi-autobiographical pyrotechnics”.
Performances are on Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July at 7.45pm. Tickets available from Lyndhurst Community Centre from Monday 2 July. Information and telephone bookings from Monday 18 June on 023 8028 2729. Tickets cost £8 for 19 July and £9 for 20 and 21 July.
