….not in Minstead we hope but it should be interesting!

8pm in the Social Club this Tuesday 12th June, all welcome.

WHEELIE BINS ARE A NO-NO!

New Forest District Council is committed to collecting our rubbish every week and asks that you put it out just inside your property by 6am on collection day. Your rubbish is your responsibility before it has been collected; if animals do split the bags then you are responsible for clearing it up. If a collector spills the contents of the bag then they should remove all rubbish. If you are concerned that birds or animals will tear open bags, you can place the bags in a dustbin just inside the boundary of your property. Your collection team will take the sacks and replace the lids.

Please do not leave your rubbish in a wheelie bin for collection as it may not be taken. They are not compatible with NFDC refuse collection vehicles and extremely challenging to empty by hand. If you have a wheelie bin, please remove your rubbish sacks and place them as above before collection.

Wheeled_bin-WEEE

For more about recycling, rubbish and waste disposal visit the NFDC website and the Village website.

HEDGES AND WILDLIFE

Hedges make great natural habitats for birds and other animals. In the last 50 years in the UK we have lost over half of them so having them and maintaining them properly can really help our wildlife.

The RSPB provides a lot of helpful advice on the right sort of species to plant and how to look after your hedges.

In particular it recommends we avoid cutting during the nesting season between early March and the end of August.

Visit the RSPB website for further information.

A MESSAGE FROM JUNIOR MINSTEAD

We are very excited to be to be preparing a wide range of activities for Junior Minstead this year – a trip to a water park, Matilda at the Mayflower, night hike and a summer dance are all in the mix. We will be publishing a calendar of events in the coming weeks.

We had a fantastic turn out at our AGM on Wednesday 25th April. Thank you to Wendy, Jo & Elaine for hosting. Wendy will be stepping down as Chair and Jo as Treasurer, we would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for all her hard work over the years in making the club such a huge success.

The new committee was voted in as follows – if you have any questions or would like more info please do get in touch:

Chair – Heidi Simpson – chair@juniorminstead.co.uk – 07968187684

Vice-Chair – Georgie Hough – vicechair@juniorminstead.co.uk

Treasurer – Elaine Barriball – treasurer@juniorminstead.co.uk

Secretary – Kirsten Waud – secretary@juniorminstead.co.uk

APPRECIATION FROM A RECENT VISITOR

A recent visitor working on his family tree has got in touch to comment as follows:

“We [found] your Church and what a wonderful place that is. If ever a church reflected the affection and care of the parishioners All Saints tops the poll. The kneelers were amazing, such time and expertise, and the place was redolent of a bygone age. We also found your pub and the village shop, and all we can say is that those who live in Minstead must bless their good fortune. The place has charm in spades, and we were so very happy to have found that the place where our ancestors came from is as it is. Thank you.”

MINSTEAD VILLAGE SHOP CORNER

Calling all groups in Minstead – We would love to invite more committees and groups utilise the shop as their community hub. You are welcome to use complimentary, tea included. To book, please email heidi@minsteadvillageshop.com

Reviews – We are thrilled to have recently been awarded the Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor. We now have over 60 x Excellent/Very Good ratings on Trip Advisor (98%). A review from this week…. We have been here a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed the lovely atmosphere, delicious savoury goodies and mouth watering cream teas. Very pleasant outlook. Staff excellent.

8TH ANNUAL PLANT AND CAKE SALE AT DUNELM

Please accept a huge vote of thanks for the generous support you gave to the Plant Sale last Saturday.  So many of you baked cakes, grew plants and donated items of bric-à-brac or bottles for the tombola stall.  We can only apologise for the traffic problems on the day, the queues at the gate and at the refreshment table, but not for the chat and laughter that was heard at the event.  All proceeds are to go to CAFOD’s work in Ethiopia and the current total is in excess of £3,600 which is another record for the event. Plans are already afoot for the ninth sale which will be next May.

With our good wishes and grateful thanks.

Henry and Nuala Rosenvinge.

TICKS AND LYME DISEASE

  • Ticks carrying disease are found across the UK in both town and countryside and in many parts of the New Forest.
  • Ticks are most active from March to October, but they can also be active on mild winter days.
  • Not all ticks are infected – infection rates in any place varies from zero to about 15%.
  • Ticks can be very small and can go unnoticed.
  • You will not feel a tick attach to you, so check your skin and that of children.

For further information on what to look for, how to reduce the risk from ticks and what to do if you think you have been bitten have a look at this NFDC Lyme Disease leaflet or visit the Lime Disease Action website

Please note that the APCM (Annual Parochial Church Meeting) will be held on April 25th. Every year, the Parochial Church Council invites new members to stand for election as 3 stand down at the end of their term. This is to allow for “new blood” and fresh ideas. The PCC is a committee of parishioners who work with the incumbent to keep the church running and there are 3 main meetings annually. Each person has something unique to bring; if you could offer your time and talents, please speak to the Churchwardens or PCC Secretary. Nominations for election to the PCC to Alison McGhee, PCC Secretary at minsteadpcc@gmail.com.
