How We Used To Live – Walk!
Date: Thursday, 6 September 2018.  Time: 4 pm.
To start this season’s How We Used To Live events Angela Trend has offered to be our guide on a walk exploring Old Lyndhurst and how we used to live.  See below for a description of the walk and alternative arrangements if it is raining.
Meet at the main door of St. Michael and All Angels’ church in Lyndhurst.  The walk begins outside the church looking at how the area has changed over the years.  Then there will be a short stroll down the High Street to The Bench, past the cemetery and crossing the road by the old Police station to discover the first and only attempt to build a Lyndhurst by pass.  On the way we will hear stories of racing and golf.  At the Romsey Road Angela will talk about tolls, turnpikes and the strenuous attempts villagers made to avoid them.  We shall return to the High Street and the Fox and Hounds.
If it is raining: Angela will give a tour of St. Michael and All Angels Church.  The involvement of the Pre-Raphaelites in the decoration of the church, particularly, the stained glass windows, the Frescoes, the Baptistry as well as well as stories of local personalities and their memorials.
Cost: £3 per person (payable on arrival).
Booking required by email (sasa.hall@btinternet.com) or 02380 284558, spaces will be limited.
