BT PAYPHONES

BT has placed a 42-day consultation notice for the removal of 48 phone-boxes in the New Forest District, including the one in Minstead at the bottom of Lyndhurst Rd opposite the turning to the Splash and Fleetwater.  If you have any comments please pass these by 28th October to the Parish Council Clerk who will be responding on behalf of the Parish. However, it looks unlikely that any strong objections will be possible.

This proposal concerns just the removal of the phone and the Parish Council will be considering separately whether or not to adopt the phone box itself.

  See bt-payphone-removal for further information.

 PLEASE CARE FOR OUR VERGES!

Now that wetter and colder autumn and winter weather is approaching our Village verges will become soft and more prone to damage.

They can be badly smashed up by being driven over and by being parked on and of course they take months to recover from such damage.

So we ask all local road users to care for our verges as if they were their own grass areas or lawns.

Please also do your best to encourage any contractors or other commercial road users with whom you may deal to take equal care

FUNGI CODE FOR THE NEW FOREST

There has been an increasing trend for foraging in recent years and this puts additional pressures on areas such as the New Forest. Due to the growing concern from conservation bodies and very real fears from members of the local community, the Forestry Commission is no longer permitting picking on any scale from the SSSI.
In previous years, a ban on commercial collection and a personal collection limit have been in place. For the first time, the Forestry Commission feels it necessary to take a precautionary approach and, with the support of partners aims to spread the message about just what a special place the New Forest is.

This autumn we appeal to people to look, but don’t pick.

Commercial harvesting is not permitted and foray leaders must obtain a licence.

Visit the Forestry Commission website for further information.

Venue: Emery Down and Bank Village Hall, Emery Down

VILLAGE HARVEST CHARITY CONCERT SAT 8TH OCT

A rare opportunity to be transported back in time will take place at All Saints Church, Minstead on Saturday 8th October at 7pm.

‘A Village Harvest’ will be staged by The Madding Crowd, a local group established in 1975, who research and perform in costume, songs, hymns, dances and poems collected from C17th-C19th village manuscripts and books.

The concert blends music and words to create the atmosphere of the old church bands. The music is often sung in wonderful four part harmony, and is close to traditional or folk music.  It promises to be a lively, amusing and informative evening.

The event is being held to raise funds for Minstead Training Trust’s 30th anniversary appeal. Established in 1986, the Trust works with over 150 people with learning disabilities, providing practical training in life skills, work-based skills and health and wellbeing from its base in Minstead, nr Lyndhurst.
