NUISANCE BONFIRES & GARDEN WASTE DISPOSAL

This is the usual annual midsummer request that you be considerate about when and where you have a bonfire.  It is not friendly to smoke out your neighbours (especially on hot summer days and evenings when windows may be open) and also you may be creating a health hazard.

It is perfectly reasonable to have a bonfire but a bit of thought and care about the time, the location and the weather conditions can minimise any unpleasant side effects and avoid upsetting your immediate neighbourhood.

To avoid such possible problems and if you have trouble disposing of garden waste then you can join the NFDC’s Garden Waste Scheme which is an easy, affordable way for New Forest residents to dispose of their garden waste.  Bags are collected once a fortnight and composted at a Hampshire facility.

Click here for further information or ring 023 8028 5000.

Alternatively you can take garden waste to the local household waste recycling centre.  Click here for further information or ring 0845 603 5634.

If bonfires are causing a nuisance then it is possible for an Abatement Order to be served upon the person responsible, owner or occupier of the premises (as appropriate) requiring the nuisance to be abated.  Failure to comply with an Abatement Notice is an offence and legal proceedings may result.

For further information about how to make a complaint

see Nuisance Bonfires on the NFDC website

or ring the Environmental Protection Section on 023 8028 5411.
