UNIVERSAL CREDIT

Universal Credit (UC) has been rolled out across the district since December 2015 for single claimants who would otherwise be claiming Jobseekers Allowance.

From 22^nd February 2017, UC has been rolled out with the full service for everyone of working age living in Bartley, Bramshaw, Brook, Cadnam, Calmore, Copythorne, Lyndhurst, Minstead, Ower, Totton and Winsor. For these areas only UC will replace all the following state benefits for all new claims:

Housing Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credits, and Child Tax Credits

Existing claimants in receipt of any of the above benefits will migrate to UC following a change of circumstances, e.g. moving in or out of work or claiming Tax Credits for the first time.

This is a huge change to claimants & will have an impact on the council, in particular rent collection.

The rest of the district is not due to “go-live” with the full service until May 2018 and it is anticipated that the full migration will be completed by 2022.
