At a glance – Whats on in August

Monday 6th August – Parish Council Meeting, 7.30pm in the Danby Room.
Saturday 11th August – Village Fete on the Village Green. Starting at approximately midday and finishing around 4.30pm.  
10th-12th August – The Trusty Servant’s Beer and Cider Festival 
Tuesday 14th August – History Group 8pm Social Club
21st August – The day your new vicar, Rev. David Potterton arrives
Saturday 1st September – The 67th Annual Flower, Fruit and Vegetable Show, Village Hall.

The Village Fete reminder

Please let us know at minsteadpc@gmail.com if you can lend a hand or just turn up on the day at about 9am – the more the merrier! Help will also be needed dismantling from 4pm.
The Tea area will be co-ordinated by the Church and we would welcome any support you can give by way of donations of Savoury or Cake produce. In addition we would be very pleased to hear from you if you are able to give a little time to the running of the Tea Tent between the hours of 11.30am and 4.30pm
Could you please let us know if you are able to provide food and/or your preferred times to assist on the day.

5 pm – All Saints’ Church, Minstead
Short service led by the Bishop of Southampton, during which Rev. David Potterton will receive the keys of All Saints’ Church.
5.45 pm – Christ Church, Emery Down
Short service led by the Bishop of Southampton during which Rev. David Potterton will receive the keys of Christ Church.
7.30 pm – St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Lyndhurst
The Licensing of The Reverend David Potterton as Priest-in-Charge of the Benefice of Lyndhurst and Emery Down and Minstead in the Deanery of Lyndhurst by The Right Reverend Jonathan Frost, Bishop of Southampton.
And Afterwards: David and his wife Ann hope that you will join them for light refreshments served in Lyndhurst Community Centre.
Other church notices for All Saints’ Minstead
•    Sun 5th, 4.15pm – Discussion Group with tea.
•    Sun 19th, 09.30 – Rev. Lynda Mead will be leading her last service during this Vacancy and her service will have a Celtic flavour.  Do come and see what you think!  She says ” Celtic Christianity is one of the oldest forms of Christianity in this country….. The general format is much as our Anglican H.C., but some of the words and the responses are quite different to our ears.”  
•    At each Service there will be a Retiring Collection; for August, it will be Mission to Seafarers.
•    Our church is now a collecting point for New Forest Basics Bank. Your donations of non perishable groceries & household items, including toiletries, would be appreciated; a box is available whenever the church is open.

Classes and Categories
Children’s Cupcake Challenge – New Forest Theme

Open to all budding cake enthusiasts under the age of 15, the entry must consist of six identical cupcakes and will be judged on the following:
Appearance – are they well presented and identical?
Creativity –  how well has the theme been interpreted?
Taste and Texture – do they taste good?
Adult Categories 15 years old and over
Traditional Cake £2 Entry
This category is open to everyone and will comprise of three sections, Victoria Sponge, Fruit Cake and Any Other Flavour!  The cakes will be judged on their appearance, texture and taste.
Scones £2 Entry
The Scone category will be broken into two categories, sweet and savoury, these need not be standard fruit and cheese, any ideas welcome, think outside the cake box!
Pastry £2 Entry
Again the Pastry category will be broken into two categories of sweet and savoury, but the entry can be in any form from quiche, to tart, to flan, to pies!
My Minstead Show Stopper!!! £5 Entry
The Show Stopper must represent what Minstead means to you and can be any form of bake.  The entry may be made by a family/group/team of people.

THE ANNUAL BEER AND CIDER FESTIVAL 2018… including Minstead Village fete, The great Minstead Bake off and Charity Dog show… 
Live Music All Weekend, Hog Roast and BBQ, Plenty of Different Beers and Ciders.. 
‘The Junko Shakers’ are Kicking off on Friday from 8pm, Saturday brings us the family fun day, Village fete and Minstead bake off, Live music all day from 2pm, with headlining act ‘The Outlaw Orchestra’ Ending the evening, and finally Sunday we start with our Annual Fun Charity Dog show from 11am, lots more beer and cider and Live music too!!! 
So, come and join us for a fantastic fun packed family friendly weekend!


A good Minstead initiative from a local resident!

Now the shop has closed perhaps we could have a Coffee/Meeting morning  in the Church.  Keeping it simple, perhaps buying cake(s) and making tea coffee at a set time/day once a month.  Views please on this and also whether you would be available, or know someone, who will give time to try to get this off the ground.

Have you lost your cat?

 

A small, black,medium haired cat with a very fluffy tail has been found in the garden of Golden Croft, Minstead. If you have lost a cat of this description please let us know atminsteadpc@gmail.com and we will put you in touch with the finders.
 


Mill Lane

  

Mill Lane – Hampshire County Council have informed the Parish Council of a planned date to improve the signage for Mill Lane. This is anticipated as the week commencing 27th August and the works will not necessitate a road closure. 

 


Channel 4 ‘A Year in the New Forest’
A four part documentary Saturday 7pm-8pm

Channel 4 – New series – A Year in the New Forest. Documentary following a year in the life of the animals and people who call the ancient forest their home. Telling the story of each season as it passes in this rich ecosystem, the series explores a remarkable, precious and traditional way of life. In the New Forest, people and nature must face climate change and the new threats of the 21st century together. 
The series started on the 29th July but Channel 4 has a catch up app ALL 4 to watch any missed episodes.
