PEACOCKS ON THE LOOSE?

There seem to be a couple of peacocks on the loose in the Village which are beginning to cause a noise nuisance to some.

If you know anything about them please let us know by emailing minsteadpc@googlemail.com or by contacting any Parish Councillor.

PHONE BOX NOW BELONGS TO PARISH COUNCIL

BT has recently removed the apparatus from the phone box opposite the Trusty and the kiosk now belongs to Minstead Parish Council.

Future use of the kiosk will be discussed at the next Parish Council meeting on Monday 5th June and we would welcome ideas about this beforehand.

Please email any suggestions to minsteadpc@googlemail.com or clerk@minstead.gov.uk.

BICYCLE THEFTS

You may have seen the Hampshire Alert message in which Police warn that thieves are now targeting bicycles that are attached to the back of vehicles parked in the New Forest, especially in the Forest’s campsites and car parks. The thieves are using bolt cutters to break through any chains that are being used to secure the bicycles to the racks on the backs of vehicles.
There are now bicycle locks that are alarmed and can be used to secure your bicycle to your vehicle. If you are able to keep your bicycle in your vehicle then that is another excellent way of protecting it.
In June, the New Forest Heart Neighbourhood Policing Team will be joining forces with the British Transport Cycle Crime Team and holding some bicycle safety events in the New Forest. Venues and dates to follow.

CYBER FRAUD

ROAD CLOSURE

Advance warning has been received that Back Lane will be closed from Dundridge Cottage to a point 450 metres towards Football Green (i.e. beyond the junction with Bull Lane) sometime after 3rd July to enable BT to carry out mysterious cabling works.  We are told the work will only take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm and will not last more than 2 days.  Further details are on the PC Noticeboard and if we hear any more we’ll try and let you know.

LYNDHURST CATHOLIC CHURCH’S 7TH ANNUAL PLANT AND CAKE SALE

It was a very successful and enjoyable sale.  We had over 200 visitors.  The weather improved and the plants were selling as fast as in the January sales.  People were so kind and generous baking cakes or growing plants for the sale.  The total raised for CAFOD’s Ethiopia project was £3,026 – a record.  The organisers wish to express a huge vote of thanks to all who supported the sale.  Plans are already afoot for next year!

And many, many thanks to everyone from Henry and Nuala Rosenvinge.

LITTER PICK 9TH MAY

Thank you so much to everyone from the village, McDonalds and Costa who contributed to this week’s litter pick along the C17. We were especially grateful to Costa’s very own Robin, who went far beyond the call of duty in his efforts in dealing with a large abandoned car seat and some unsavoury items!

Everyone’s help was very much appreciated, particularly Tessa Keeley who organised this event.

THEFTS FROM CARS ON THE INCREASE

Hampshire Police are urging all motorists who visit the New Forest to take extra care when parking their vehicles in car parks or on the side of the road. Thieves are targeting unattended vehicles and if they see anything that could be valuable inside they are breaking in and stealing it.

So please, never leave anything valuable in your vehicle, take it all with you. And don’t hide anything under the seats or in the boot because thieves often hide and watch what you are doing and then when you’ve gone for your walk they know where you’ve “hidden” everything.

PCSO 14495 Richard Williams has left some red signs at the Village Shop that you can leave on your dashboard that say that you have left nothing valuable in your car. He also has some drawstring bags that you can use to take your possessions with you rather than leaving them in the car. If you would like any of those just email him at richard.williams@hampshire.pnn.police.uk.

FLY TIPPING

Hampshire County Council is proposing to set up a dedicated organisation to work exclusively on reducing fly tipping.  This would focus on working with Police, Borough, District and City Councils and others to improve reporting and intelligence and increase prosecutions, as well as promoting ways the public can help.  It is increasingly likely that anything found that has been fly tipped can be traced back to an individual or organisation who are then likely to be prosecuted and fined.  Hampshire has also opened up Household Waste Recycling Centres to small and medium sized enterprises for the first time.  This provides a legal and cost effective place for businesses to recycle and dispose of waste.

For further information on this initiative visit the HCC website.

GARAGE THEFT

Someone in our community has had some garden loppers stolen from their garage.  A woman described as middle aged with short dark reddish dyed hair was seen in the vicinity with a man in a Ford double cab pickup with writing on the side saying garden or tree work.  The same woman may have been seen in the Bartley area as well.

If you see anything or anyone suspicious ring 101.

If you see a crime actually being committed ring 999.

Visit the Hampshire Constabulary website for lots of good advice about keeping your homes and outbuildings safe and secure, suggestions on what to do when you go on holiday and much other useful guidance.
