UNIVERSAL CREDIT

Universal Credit (UC) has been rolled out across the district since December 2015 for single claimants who would otherwise be claiming Jobseekers Allowance.

From 22nd February 2017, UC has been rolled out with the full service for everyone of working age living in Bartley, Bramshaw, Brook, Cadnam, Calmore, Copythorne, Lyndhurst, Minstead, Ower, Totton and Winsor. For these areas only UC will replace all the following state benefits for all new claims:

Housing Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credits, and Child Tax Credits

Existing claimants in receipt of any of the above benefits will migrate to UC following a change of circumstances, e.g. moving in or out of work or claiming Tax Credits for the first time.

This is a huge change to claimants & will have an impact on the council, in particular rent collection.

The rest of the district is not due to “go-live” with the full service until May 2018 and it is anticipated that the full migration will be completed by 2022.

For more details & information see http://www.newforest.gov.uk/article/16626/Universal-Credit

Glass recycling text message reminders
Residents of the New Forest can now sign up to a new text messaging service being introduced by the district council which will send a reminder the evening before monthly glass recycling collections are due.
As well as the text message prompt, Remind Me will reward residents for recycling their glass by entering them into a reward draw. 20 households will be randomly selected each month and, if they are recycling the right things, they can choose from a range of rewards, such as one month’s free membership at one of five New Forest Health and Leisure Centres, a family ticket to Beaulieu or a hamper full of local goodies from The New Forest Hamper Company.
The first 15,000 households to sign up will also receive a free Brand New Forest discount card, usually £5.
To register for the reminders, residents should text GLASS followed continuously by first name, last name, first line of address and postcode to 81025

METAL DETECTOR

Does anyone have a Metal Detector that they might be willing to loan to a parishioner?

Please let us know.

And Finally . . .   A TALE of THREE KITTIES (with apologies to C Dickens!)

A week or so ago three tabby kittens along with their mother were cruelly abandoned in a cardboard box at the entrance to Castle Malwood Lodge Minstead.
They survived the night in sub zero temperatures and were found on the Friday.
A call to the Cat Protection office in Totton was quickly followed up by their Officer (Caroline) arriving and collecting the family of cats, who are now safe, warm, fed and happy.
If anyone would like to rehouse them in a secure friendly home then please phone 07515177773.

ICY ROADS

Our thanks to all those public-spirited people who did spread salt & grit when and where necessary.

Salt & Grit bins are strategically located throughout the parish

FOR SELF HELP as the majority of our roads are not serviced by gritting lorries. A little goes a long way, if you need it then probably so do others, so please be neighbourly and spread a little on the road where required.

THIS Message of THANKS came to us – YOU know who you are, Well Done!

“I got stuck trying to drive up the very icy hill near the ford on my way
home from work tonight. I managed to reverse down and parked up off the
road, and a very kind lady stopped to ask if I was alright. I explained that
I would call a breakdown service, but a short while later she came back with
her husband, and they stayed with me until the AA arrived. I forgot to ask
their names, but the lady has a short grey bob and her husband was wearing a
hi-vis jacket and spectacles. If it is possible to identify them, please
could you pass on my sincere thanks for their kindness and thoughtfulness?
Their actions really showed what a lovely place the village is. Many, many
thanks.”

CHICKENS IN NEED

Chris and Tessa Keeley say “A big “THANK YOU” to all those kind people who have rallied round with newspapers for our chickens. They have been wonderful and we appreciate it very much, plus it’s nice to meet some new people in the process”.

C17 LITTER PICK Last Week

“Also a big “THANK YOU” from Tessa (and the PC) to everyone who came on the litter pick last week. When we first started we removed a lot of  ‘historic’ rubbish that was hidden at the back of the verges or part buried in the ground, etc and feel that these quarterly picks are useful in that they contain the litter so it does not build up so badly again.”

Australia Day celebrates his arrival in what he named Sydney on January 26.
2014 is the bicentenary of his death and celebrations in England too from Westminster to Bath and New Forest. Come and find more about New Forest and Australia links.
