If you have recently purchased a property in the New Forest you are probably aware of the special responsibilities that go with living in such a beautiful place. In case you are not sure there is a useful leaflet for newcomers (and indeed for all who live in the Forest) which provides advice and guidance for owners of properties adjoining the Open Forest. To read this visit:

It has been produced by the New Forest Higher Level Stewardship Scheme and is supported by the Verderers, the Forestry Commission, the National Park Authority and Natural England.

The leaflet covers a range of subjects including how to protect your garden, keeping the New Forest character, boundary and ditch maintenance, hedges, verges and the importance of avoiding excessive outside lighting.

To find out more about the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme and the many projects it has completed or which are still ongoing visit:

The latest edition of the Neighbourhood Watch e-newsletter Our News can now be read on line. It includes a new report on what makes a good neighbour in modern Britain and provides lots of valuable advice on keeping you safe.
