YOUR LOCAL FLOWER SHOW NEEDS YOU!!

Minstead Flower Show is a very popular show and after 30 years on the committee Janet Mitchell has decided to stand down as Secretary.  The Committee is looking for someone within the village to take on the role on Entry Secretary so that this show can continue with the success it has had for the past sixty-five years.  There is currently a very pro-active committee who all do their bit to make this show happen which is why they are looking outside the committee for someone to step up and take the entries.

The Entry Secretary would receive entries for the Show by email, post and in person mostly the week before the Show which is on the first Saturday in September.  These would need to be put on a spreadsheet (template already done) and then produce a card for each exhibit, these have been hand written in the past but could also be computer generated.  Janet is happy give further details and information to anyone who may be interested but this year’s will be her last show.

Please feel free to contact Janet Mitchell on 023 8081 3484 or email jm4mfs@btinternet.com.

 AGRICULTURAL VEHICLES – CONSIDERATE DRIVING

Some of our parishioners are worried about the speed at which some agricultural vehicles are driven around the Village, particularly when they are waiting for school buses with small children, when walking along our quiet (!) country roads and when riding or leading horses or ponies.  Tractors often have large implements or trailers attached and time is always pressing but even at speeds of 30mph or less they can be quite intimidating and scary, especially for small children and animals.

All drivers of large agricultural machinery are asked to be considerate in this respect, plan to take a little longer for their journeys and slow down when passing pedestrians and animals.  Anyone contracting someone using agricultural machinery is asked to pass on this message.

SUPERFAST BROADBAND – TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

Have you successfully upgraded or attempted to upgrade to the new Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) broadband service in Minstead?  If so the Parish Council is interested in getting your views on it. The data will be used to drive our ongoing ambitions to improve broadband in the Parish.  We’ve created a very short online survey to allow you to express your experience good or bad. To complete the survey please go to http://test.minstead.org.uk/broadband/fttc-broadband-survey-experience-fttc-fibre-cabinet or click here.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH

See https://newforestparishes.com/about/minstead-church/ for All Saints services and events.

NEW FOREST BASICS BANK

The aim is to provide support and help to individuals and families in need.  There is a collecting box in Minstead Church, you’ll find it near the font and you’re welcome to bring donations of no perishable food and hygiene items whenever the church is open.  We will arrange for it to be transported to Lymington for distribution.

Don’t forget when you’re shopping!

CELEBRATE THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY AT MINSTEAD CHURCH

“Open Church” will be held on Saturday 11th June starting at 10am.  Light a birthday candle, decorate a birthday cake, ring one of our church bells, find out a little about your village church, walk the churchyard trail, meet some of the church family.

Keep a look out for posters round the village!

MINSTEAD PLAYERS – A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY

The next Minstead Players  production on Friday 18th November and Saturday 19th November 2016 in the village Hall  is  Agatha Crusty and the Village Hall Murders by Derek Webb. Rehearsals start in September.

Agatha Crusty (pronounced Croosty) is a crime novelist. She’s also pretty adept at solving crimes. And when her sister-in-law Alice invites her to spend a few days with her in the village of Chortelby, it’s not long before she gets caught up in a series of murders which seem directed at members of the All Saints Village Hall committee. From Toby, the Vicar, and Eleanor, Chair of the committee, to Harry Knott the caretaker and identical twins Olivia and Oliver Truscott-Pratt, there are plenty of suspects. And with an investigating officer as incompetent as D.I. Twigg, there are plenty of laughs as the murders begin to pile up. But, while packed full of wit and very funny scenes, this is also a genuine murder mystery with an ingenious plot which will tax the little grey cells of the audience at the same time!

We have a director, producer and back stage manager. All we need is some actors. Would you like to be involved?

If you would like to view the script before the audition meeting please contact Helen Bennett at helen.bennett160@yahoo.com.

The audition meeting will be in June, date to be advised in next week’s eNewsletter.

FREEDOM OF NEW FOREST DISTRICT GIVEN TO 17 PORT AND MARITIME REGIMENT

Some may be interested to know that at a special meeting of the NFDC the Freedom of the District was granted to 17 Port and Maritime Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps based at Marchwood.  This gives the Regiment the right, honour and distinction of marching through the streets of the New Forest District on all ceremonial occasions with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, bands playing and colours flying!

A ceremony and parade will take place on Sunday 25th September 2016 in Lyndhurst.

HEDGE CUTTING TEAM AT WORK

And finally, many thanks to a top notch ad hoc hedge cutting team consisting of members of Minstead Parish Council and other local helpers who have cut back part of a high hedge which was overhanging Lyndhurst Road.

           Hedge Cutting Team

Normally Hampshire County Council expects property owners to maintain their hedges so they do not intrude on to the highway but an exception was made to give a helping hand in this particular case.
