JUNIOR MINSTEAD SUPPORTS LOCAL CHARITIES

This week following the 2016 Pantomime a group of the JM children presented a cheque for £150 to Chris Carey, CEO of It’s Your Choice a local youth charity based at Totton.

JM has also sent 2 more cheques, each for £150.00 to Wave 105 – Cash for Kids and CO2 Awareness.

All three Charities have written to JM expressing their thanks to the group:

Chris Carey – CEO – It’s your Choice:

“I just wanted to write to say a huge thanks to you, Wendy and everyone at Junior Minstead for presenting us with a cheque for £150 last night. These are hard times for charity’s like It’s Your Choice so we are genuinely grateful for all the support we receive. It was really kind of you to think of us.”

Ellie Hughes Charity Coordinator Wave 105 – Cash for Kids

“Thanks for your call yesterday! It’s always especially nice to hear about kids raising money for the charity, so it really made my afternoon.”

CO2 Awareness

“Thank you so much for supporting our charity – every penny counts.”

 TRAFFIC PROBLEMS!

Concerns about inconsiderate driving through the Village continue to arise and there have been one or two unpleasant incidents.  Things are not helped by the various roadworks, temporary road closures, building works and accidents on the A31 and A35 resulting in our roads being used as rat runs.  Potholes, collapsing road edges and the increasing size of vehicles also contribute to our roads becoming ever more hazardous.  Our local police are well aware of the situation, which is not unique to Minstead, but do not possess all the answers.  Other authorities are also familiar with this worsening state of affairs but bureaucratic procedures and lack of funds mean there are no quick fixes on the horizon.  The Parish Council continues to raise these problems at every possible opportunity.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

  1. Please set an example by driving considerately on our local roads and take account of your immediate surroundings, particularly if you are in charge of a large vehicle or tractor.  Even when travelling at below the speed limit these can be intimidating and scary, especially for children and animals. If in doubt, SLOW DOWN! And please pass on this message to anyone who is working for you or with you whatever sort of vehicle they drive!
  2. 2.  Our local police are keen to resurrect the volunteer Speedwatch scheme which is thought to have some beneficial effects on driver behaviour.  If you are interested in taking part please email us at minsteadpc@googlemail.com or contact our PCSO Richard Williams who will be at the next Beat Surgery in the Shop from 4-5pm on Monday 20th June.

 LYNDHURST ROAD, MINSTEAD DRAINAGE WORKS

For those who have not already been informed the works which started on 6 June 2016 are expected to last for 5 weeks, during which time Lyndhurst Road will be closed 24/7.

The works will be in three phases.  See LYNDHURST ROAD DRAINAGE WORKS for details.

 A FINE SIGHT!

            RR

Continuing the traffic theme this fine vehicle was seen temporarily occupying the disabled parking bay outside the church for an entirely respectable reason.  It did not scare anyone and we wish the occupants Good Luck for the future!

JUNIOR MINSTEAD CELEBRATES THE QUEEN’S 90TH BIRTHDAY!

 JM1

A fantastic Junior Minstead celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday today!  Sprits were not dampened by the rain and a great time was had by all!

 BOURNEMOUTH WATER WORKS

Bournemouth Water have written stating that they are aware that some of their vehicles have damaged our verges during the water main replacement work and that they will restore these sections of verge when the works are complete. They also point out that there are some areas of verge that are damaged that are not down to Bournemouth Water’s work, the largest area is near to the village hall where there is building work happening.  Once all work is complete we shall hold a site meeting with them and Hampshire Highways to discuss any other areas of concern.

       NFDC INFORMATION BULLETIN

For those interested, the NFDC Information Bulletin for May 2016 can be accessed clicking here.

NUISANCE BONFIRES & GARDEN WASTE DISPOSAL

This is the usual annual midsummer request that you be considerate about when and where you have a bonfire.  It is not friendly to smoke out your neighbours (especially on hot summer days and evenings when windows may be open) and also you may be creating a health hazard.

It is perfectly reasonable to have the occasional bonfire but a bit of thought and care about the time, the location and the weather conditions can minimise any unpleasant side effects and avoid upsetting your immediate neighbourhood.

Alternatively, if you have trouble disposing of garden waste then you can join the NFDC’s Garden Waste Scheme which is an easy, affordable way for New Forest residents to dispose of their garden waste.  Bags are collected once a fortnight and composted at a Hampshire facility.

Click here for further information or ring 023 8028 5000.

Alternatively you can take garden waste to the local household waste recycling centre.  Click here for further information or ring 0845 603 5634.

If bonfires are causing a nuisance then it is possible for an Abatement Order to be served upon the person responsible, owner or occupier of the premises (as appropriate) requiring the nuisance to be abated.  Failure to comply with an Abatement Notice is an offence and legal proceedings may result.

For further information about how to make a complaint

see Nuisance Bonfires on the NFDC website

or ring the Environmental Protection Section on 023 8028 5411.

YOUR LOCAL FLOWER SHOW NEEDS YOU!!

Minstead Flower Show is a very popular show and after 30 years on the committee Janet Mitchell has decided to stand down as Secretary.  The Committee is looking for someone within the village to take on the role on Entry Secretary so that this show can continue with the success it has had for the past sixty-five years.  There is currently a very pro-active committee who all do their bit to make this show happen which is why they are looking outside the committee for someone to step up and take the entries.

The Entry Secretary would receive entries for the Show by email, post and in person mostly the week before the Show which is on the first Saturday in September.  These would need to be put on a spreadsheet (template already done) and then produce a card for each exhibit, these have been hand written in the past but could also be computer generated.  Janet is happy give further details and information to anyone who may be interested but this year’s will be her last show.

Some of our parishioners are worried about the speed at which some agricultural vehicles are driven around the Village, particularly when they are waiting for school buses with small children, when walking along our quiet (!) country roads and when riding or leading horses or ponies.  Tractors often have large implements or trailers attached and time is always pressing but even at speeds of 30mph or less they can be quite intimidating and scary, especially for small children and animals.

All drivers of large agricultural machinery are asked to be considerate in this respect, plan to take a little longer for their journeys and slow down when passing pedestrians and animals.  Anyone contracting someone using agricultural machinery is asked to pass on this message.

SUPERFAST BROADBAND – TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

Have you successfully upgraded or attempted to upgrade to the new Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) broadband service in Minstead?  If so the Parish Council is interested in getting your views on it. The data will be used to drive our ongoing ambitions to improve broadband in the Parish.  We’ve created a very short online survey to allow you to express your experience good or bad. To complete the survey please go to http://test.minstead.org.uk/broadband/fttc-broadband-survey-experience-fttc-fibre-cabinet or click here.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH

NEW FOREST BASICS BANK

The aim is to provide support and help to individuals and families in need.  There is a collecting box in Minstead Church, you’ll find it near the font and you’re welcome to bring donations of no perishable food and hygiene items whenever the church is open.  We will arrange for it to be transported to Lymington for distribution.

Don’t forget when you’re shopping!

CELEBRATE THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY AT MINSTEAD CHURCH

Keep a look out for posters round the village!

MINSTEAD PLAYERS – A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY

The next Minstead Players  production on Friday 18th November and Saturday 19th November 2016 in the village Hall  is  Agatha Crusty and the Village Hall Murders by Derek Webb. Rehearsals start in September.

Agatha Crusty (pronounced Croosty) is a crime novelist. She’s also pretty adept at solving crimes. And when her sister-in-law Alice invites her to spend a few days with her in the village of Chortelby, it’s not long before she gets caught up in a series of murders which seem directed at members of the All Saints Village Hall committee. From Toby, the Vicar, and Eleanor, Chair of the committee, to Harry Knott the caretaker and identical twins Olivia and Oliver Truscott-Pratt, there are plenty of suspects. And with an investigating officer as incompetent as D.I. Twigg, there are plenty of laughs as the murders begin to pile up. But, while packed full of wit and very funny scenes, this is also a genuine murder mystery with an ingenious plot which will tax the little grey cells of the audience at the same time!

We have a director, producer and back stage manager. All we need is some actors. Would you like to be involved?

If you would like to view the script before the audition meeting please contact Helen Bennett at helen.bennett160@yahoo.com.

The audition meeting will be in June, date to be advised in next week’s eNewsletter.

FREEDOM OF NEW FOREST DISTRICT GIVEN TO 17 PORT AND MARITIME REGIMENT

Some may be interested to know that at a special meeting of the NFDC the Freedom of the District was granted to 17 Port and Maritime Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps based at Marchwood.  This gives the Regiment the right, honour and distinction of marching through the streets of the New Forest District on all ceremonial occasions with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, bands playing and colours flying!

A ceremony and parade will take place on Sunday 25th September 2016 in Lyndhurst.

HEDGE CUTTING TEAM AT WORK

And finally, many thanks to a top notch ad hoc hedge cutting team consisting of members of Minstead Parish Council and other local helpers who have cut back part of a high hedge which was overhanging Lyndhurst Road.

           Hedge Cutting Team

Normally Hampshire County Council expects property owners to maintain their hedges so they do not intrude on to the highway but an exception was made to give a helping hand in this particular case.

 HOUSEHOLD WASTE RECYCLING CENTRES

There are currently 24 HWRC sites in Hampshire which are open seven days a week, all year round (except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day), but this level of service is no longer affordable as Government continues to reduce funding for local authorities.  Hampshire County Council is seeking views from Hampshire residents on a range of proposals to help lower the running costs and a ten week public consultation runs until Wednesday 25 May 2016.  To find out more and to complete the consultation questionnaire visit the HCC website by clicking here.

THE FUTURE OF HAMPSHIRE’S LIBRARY SERVICE

Hampshire County Council’s Library Strategy approved on 18th April has been shaped by the 9,500 responses collected during the consultation. The Strategy will provide an approach to meet customers’ demands for a modern service – making the most of emerging digital technologies and investing in library buildings.  Planned improvements include exploring the use of electronic self-service counters to provide extended opening hours in some locations, and the refurbishment of a number of sites to make them bright and more welcoming to visitors.  In addition, the Home Library Service will be expanded to replace the relatively high-cost Mobile Library Service which will cease at the end of June this year.

Click here to read more about the future of the library service in Hampshire.
