MINSTEAD TO GET ITS OWN DEFIBRILLATOR!

Additional funds will be needed………..

Following a positive consultation with parishioners the Parish Council has agreed to support a defibrillator being placed centrally in the village. This will be part funded by a generous donation by our local County Councillor and it is hoped that the remaining funds needed (approximately £2000) will be raised locally.  The Parish Council will be considering how best to achieve this but if you have suggestions for fund raising please email them to minsteadpc@googlemail.com or contact the Clerk or any Parish Councillor.

……………and training of volunteers will be essential!

It will important for everyone to realise that while a defibrillator can be a life-saver it is not a substitute for ringing 999 and carrying out basic resuscitation procedures in the case of collapse or sudden cardiac arrest. The Parish Council will arrange for training sessions for basic diagnosis and resuscitation as well as in the use of a defibrillator.  If you are interested in attending a training session, which will last for about 1.5 hours, please email minsteadpc@googlemail.com or inform the Clerk or any Parish Councillor by 15th October 2015.

DOG FOULING

Following recent queries the following advice comes from NFDC.

You can use any plastic bag to pick up your dog’s waste and if you can’t find a dog waste bin it’s all right to put it in one of the litter bins. Dog waste from your garden can be double-bagged and placed in your black refuse sack.

It is important for all dog owners to take responsibility for cleaning up after their animal as not only is it unpleasant to look at and even more unpleasant to step in, it can pose a health risk. For example, Toxocariasis is a rare infection caused by roundworms in the digestive tracts of dogs. It can cause headaches, eye problems and fever in humans if they come into contact with it.

If you spot a dog fouling problem, you can report it to Customer Services on 023 8028 5000 or report it online.

Please clear up after your dog to keep the New Forest a pleasant place for everybody and encourage others to do likewise.

New Forest District Council can fine those who fail to pick up after their dog £50 so please ensure you have bags or poop scoops with you every time you walk your dog.

 “RURAL POLICING MATTERS” CAMPAIGN

The Rural Services Network (RSN) is encouraging members and supporters to respond to a government consultation on funding rural policing. The RSN is supporting a ‘rural policing matters’ campaign by the National Rural Crime Network (NRCN), which is encouraging consultation responses. NRCN research due to be published next month shows trust in policing is much lower than residents of urban areas. Without proper resourcing for rural police forces, it is possible that some crimes and anti-social behaviour might not get the attention they deserve. The NRCN argues that a proposed new funding formula fails to take into account the unit-cost of policing a rural area. It says the formula also fails to reflect the majority of work the police do which is not in fact crime-related such as road safety or responding to welfare issues. Both the RSN and the NRCN are encouraging as many rural residents as possible to respond to the government consultation on the issue. They believe that the new police funding formula should recognise the “inbuilt complexities” of dealing with crime in rural, isolated areas. Full details about the ‘rural policing matters’ campaign, including the consultation, are available on the NRCN website here. To ensure your voice is heard, they suggest responding to the government’s consultation using a prepared template letter available here. They are also encouraging people to sign the ‘rural policing matters’ petition, which is also available here. Please bear in mind that all consultation responses have to be with the government by 15 September.

FOREST PHARMACY BARTLEY – PATIENT SURVEY

If you use the Forest Pharmacy in Bartley you may wish to complete the Forest Pharmacy Patient Survey and take it to the pharmacy.

The purpose of the survey is to gain a better understanding of the needs of the local population ahead of making further decisions regarding a proposal to provide pharmaceutical services under a new Local Pharmaceutical Services (LPS) contract that were previously provided by the pharmacy under the Essential Small Pharmacy LPS scheme which terminated on 31 March 2015. The services include dispensing services, repeat dispensing services, disposal services in respect of unwanted drugs, promotion of healthy lifestyles, signposting, support for self-care, medicines use review and the new medicines service.

The survey can also be completed on line by visiting

https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/survey/26ad74d1

ADVICE REGARDING IRISH MALES SELLING GOODS FROM VEHICLES

The sharp eyed amongst you will have read a further message on Hampshire Alert about reports received from the community in different parts of the New Forest concerning suspicious persons who were predominately Irish males who were cold calling at addresses. They were also reported as stopping on the roadside and trying to sell garden machinery, or general purpose electrical equipment such as smart phones and generators.
At this time there is nothing to suggest that the items for sale are stolen. However, it is suspected that the goods may be of substandard quality, despite the pricing being similar to new products.
We would urge people not to purchase any of these items, and be mindful of any suspicious activity in your area. Please contact 101 and report any details you may have noted about the person(s) and or vehicle that was being used i.e. number plate, colour, description, any identifying features, i.e. stickers in rear windows, dents etc.
