CONSIDERATE DRIVING

Some of our parishioners are worried about the speed at which some agricultural vehicles are driven around the Village, particularly when they are waiting for school buses with small children.  This is especially relevant at the moment with the hay/silage season in full swing.  Tractors often have large implements or trailers attached and time is always pressing.  Even at speeds up to 30mph they can be quite scary, especially for small children.

All drivers of large agricultural machinery are asked to be considerate in this respect.  Anyone contracting someone using agricultural machinery is asked to pass on this message.

NUISANCE BONFIRES & GARDEN WASTE DISPOSAL

This is the usual annual midsummer request that you be considerate about when and where you have a bonfire.  It is not friendly to smoke out your neighbours (especially on hot summer days and evenings when windows may be open) and also you may be creating a health hazard.

It is perfectly reasonable to have a bonfire but a bit of thought and care about the time, the location and the weather conditions can minimise any unpleasant side effects and avoid upsetting your immediate neighbourhood.

To avoid such possible problems and if you have trouble disposing of garden waste then you can join the NFDC’s Garden Waste Scheme which is an easy, affordable way for New Forest residents to dispose of their garden waste.  Bags are collected once a fortnight and composted at a Hampshire facility.

Click here for further information or ring 023 8028 5000.

Alternatively you can take garden waste to the local household waste recycling centre.  Click here for further information or ring 0845 603 5634.

If bonfires are causing a nuisance then it is possible for an Abatement Order to be served upon the person responsible, owner or occupier of the premises (as appropriate) requiring the nuisance to be abated.  Failure to comply with an Abatement Notice is an offence and legal proceedings may result.

For further information about how to make a complaint

see Nuisance Bonfires on the NFDC website

or ring the Environmental Protection Section on 023 8028 5411.

 HAMPSHIRE ALERT

Hampshire Alert has issued a report recently about thefts of gardening equipment and other machinery from sheds and outbuildings in the Fordingbridge and Ringwood area. There is also a separate report about a suspicious male with an Irish accent who has been seen driving a small white van in much the same area selling cheap garden tools. There is no suggestion that these two are connected!

For further information visit https://www.hampshirealert.co.uk/

 ALARMED PADLOCKS

In view of the above you may be interested to know that Alarmed Padlocks are for sale at New Forest District Council Information Offices – £10 each.

The shock and motion padlock alarm will act as a visible deterrent to intruders looking to break into vulnerable sheds, garages and other rural outbuildings. This hardened, weatherproof alarm has a powerful 110 decibel siren and is activated by movement. It was tested by the Hampshire Police Country Watch team who found it unbreakable and highly recommend the alarm.

The Safer New Forest Partnership is offering residents the chance to buy the padlock alarm for just £10, available from New Forest District Council information centres.

 NATIONAL RURAL CRIME NETWORK

If you have not yet seen it on Hampshire Alert you may be interested in the NRCM survey and give your opinions about policing in our area.

To do so visit: http://www.nationalruralcrimenetwork.net/research/internal/national-rural-crimes-survey-2015/?member=NW

It takes 5-10 minutes to complete.

 ROAD CLOSURE – BACK LANE

A further reminder that we have recently been informed that Hampshire County Council’s Highways West Office (contact is Rob Millarrob.millar@hants.gov.uk Tel: 0300 555 1388) has requested a temporary road closure to Back Lane from the Village Green to the bottom of Bull Lane, from this Wednesday 24thJune, for a likely maximum duration of 3 days, in order to carry out carriageway repair works.

 BRIDLEWAY 10

Hampshire County Council plans to carry out essential maintenance works to this Bridleway in the near future, including surfacing and drainage repairs. The works have been highlighted as necessary during consultation with the Parish Council, user groups and landowners. The schedule of works is estimated to last 2 to 4 weeks and be completed before the end of September. The length of the route to be improved will be subject to a temporary closure between these dates. Vehicles, including deliveries, and plant machinery may be observed driving along the Bridleway for the duration of the works. HCC will shortly be writing to local residents with details and proposes to be on site during the evening of Thursday 4th June to answer any queries and to obtain feedback. If this is of interest, please contact them at accessteamsouth@hants.gov.uk or 02380 605110.

LYMES DISEASE

Some may have seen the recent BBC South Today report that there is potentially an increase in the number of cases of Lymes Disease in the UK and that the New Forest is one of the regions where there is a particularly high population of ticks.

The NHS website contains useful information for those who enjoy walking or riding or picnicking in the Forest about the signs and symptoms of the disease, how you might catch it, when to see your GP, treatment and prevention etc.

COUNTRY WATCH

If you are not already aware, Hampshire Constabulary has dedicated Country Watch Teams across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.  The main aims of Country Watch are to reduce rural crime, reassure rural residents and improve communication and engagement. It is designed to bring together several different aspects of rural policing, including Horse Watch, Farm Watch, hunt liaison, wildlife crime and equine liaison in a co-ordinated and consistent fashion.  The team also attends various country events and is, for example, at the Highclere Game Fare this weekend, joined by Firearms Enquiry Officers on the British Association of Shooting and Conservation stand available for general enquiries as well as firearms licensing related issues.

For further information visit http://www.hampshirecountrywatch.co.uk/ where you can sign up for the Western Area Country Watch regular newsletter which covers the New Forest and/or sign up for Hampshire Alert (see below).

 HUGO FINAL BULLETIN

Sylvia would like to thank those people who have kindly given information on the black/white cat who was found dead a few weeks ago; this was not Hugo she is pleased to say.  Hugo has appeared for food a few times and therefore we must assume that he is happy wherever he goes when he is not ‘at home’!!  Thank you for all your interest and if you do know his whereabouts it would be nice to know that he is keeping well.

HAMPSHIRE ALERT

The following message was received recently from Hampshire Alert, amongst others:

On Sunday 10th May several bush fires appear to have been set deliberately causing small fires which Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished.  Locations include Ocknell and Milkham.  We are concerned that we will experience reckless and mindless arson attacks as seen in Dorset and South Wales over the past few months.  Thankfully the ground has been damp on these occasions.  If you see any suspicious activity or persons starting fires in the New Forest please call the Police on 101 or in an emergency the Fire Service on 999.
By working together lets stamp out deliberate and mindless forest fires.

The next Beat Surgery will be at 6pm in the Old Surgery at the Village Hall this Wednesday 21st May.  This is an excellent opportunity for anyone to come along and meet our local police officers and discuss any issues of concern with them informally.
