RUBBISH COLLECTIONS

There have been some recent incidents reported of forest animals attacking rubbish bags put out for collection.

Although most in Minstead will know already, for the benefit of newcomers the advice from NFDC is to leave your sacks just inside your property for collection to prevent them being torn apart by animals.  The collection teams are well aware that you need to do this. If you are concerned that birds or animals will tear open bags, you can place them in a dustbin at the boundary of your property. Your collection team will take the sacks and replace the lids. Please do not leave your rubbish in a wheelie bin for collection as it will not be taken. If you have a wheelie bin, please remove your rubbish sacks before collection.

For further information about the riveting subjects of recycling, rubbish, waste disposal and fly-tipping click HERE and have a look at the page on the Village website.

BEAT REPORT

Click HERE to read the Beat Report for our area for January.

This is well worth reading particularly if you have sheds or other outbuildings on your property as these seem to have been particularly targeted by thieves recently.

The next Beat Surgery will be held at The Trusty Servant on Saturday 16th February at 11am

SEVERE WEATHER

Although it looks as if the worst of the cold weather is behind us for the time being it can always return at this time of year (remember the Beast from the East?)

If so our Police advise that if you’re planning on driving, take extra care on the road. Leave yourself plenty of time and check local radio or online for the latest road and weather updates.

In addition you can get an up to date report if NFDC Services are affected by the weather by clicking HERE.

The following agencies are worth checking to stay up to date:

Hampshire County Council
Met Office
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service
ROMANSE

CAN YOU HELP OUR VILLAGE HALL?

Minstead Hall Management Committee now needs an IT-minded person (of any age) who might wish to volunteer to learn the management of our new online Reservation and Calendar system with a view to taking on support of it as necessary.

Full training and initial oversight are available.

For further information and details please contact Shaun Barriball at shaun@barriballs.net .

MINSTEAD COMMUNITY SHOP

Since the public meeting on 17 November 2019 the Working Group has been busy, first, digesting the comments and suggestions from the meeting and taking appropriate actions in line with that feedback.

The Working Group understood the meeting did not favour the proposal of constructing a temporary shop in the village hall car park but should examine the possibilities of utilising an existing building in the village.  We were unable to progress discussions with the owners of the shop and concluded that the Danby room was not a large enough space and suffered from the same problem as the new build: it was not on the village green.

The good news is that Debbie, the landlady of the Trusty Servant, has offered us prime space at the front of the pub to open the shop.  Although it is not as large as we would have liked, we believe it is a workable space and, most importantly, it is on the village green and with the support of the community can be a successful location.

We still have considerable ground work to do in negotiating terms but feel this is a way forward to, at least, test the viability of a community shop in Minstead whilst minimising the outlay.

There has been a proposal for a “21st century internet hub” where on line shopping is introduced, however, we feel that in the interests of the village community, visitors and long-term success of the shop, we should retain a more conventional Community village shop with personal service.

The Working Group extends our thanks for all your invaluable ideas, support and not least patience, we shall keep you updated on our endeavours.

Happy New Year to you all.
