DEVOLUTION – SERVING HAMPSHIRE

As previously mentioned, Hampshire County Council launched ‘Serving Hampshire’ asking for views on different ways that the County Council and the 11 district councils in Hampshire could change, or be reorganised. This is a response from the County Council to the long running debate on possible devolution for Hampshire and Isle of Wight. The consultation is being undertaken alone by the County Council and not in partnership with any of the District Councils in Hampshire. The consultation, which asks for opinions on options including doing away with all 11 district and borough councils and replacing them with one all-purpose unitary, can be found using the link Hampshire consultation. It runs until 20 September 2016 and anyone can comment.

FLOWER, FRUIT AND VEGETABLE SHOW 3RD SEPTEMBER

IMG_0008

This year’s Show was another outstanding success with a massive 604 entries of which 166 were from 37 different children! The Hall looked spectacular and the judges yet again commented on the very high standard of all the exhibits.

IMG_0002FullSizeRender

The Show was opened by Janet Mitchell who is retiring from the Committee after 30 years and as Secretary since 1997 when she took over from Marcia Northcroft. Introducing Janet, the Flower Show Society Chairman Colin Payne thanked her on behalf of the Committee for all her hard work over the years and wished her the very best for the future. The huge appreciation of the Village was evident from the warm applause from everyone present.

Janet passes on her thanks to everyone who took part in such a great village event and said it was good to see the mix of experienced and novice exhibitors.

She also adds that any child who did not get their certificate yesterday should let her know and she will get one to them. You should either mail Janet on jm4mfs@btinternet.com or phone on 02380813484.

Thanks must also go to the other members of the Committee and all those in the community who worked so hard to make the Show such a success.

NOISE or other NUISANCE

Following a number of complaints over this and previous weekends it is timely for us to remind you of the process to be followed in the event of noise or other nuisance.

In the first instance we suggest contacting the perpetrator to try to decrease the nuisance.

If this is not successful a report should be made to the POLICE by telephoning 101, and then a further report made (during office hours) to NFDC Environmental Health (Environmental Protection Section) on 023 8028 5411.

Further details may be found at http://www.newforest.gov.uk/article/4228/Noise

OBSTRUCTION of a HIGHWAY

Should you come across an obstruction of a Highway (say fallen tree, abandoned vehicle, fly-tipping etc) here are the ways for you to report it effectively:-

  1. If it is immediately critically dangerous telephone the POLICE on 999,
  2. If it is potentially seriously hazardous report it to the POLICE on 101,
  3. Otherwise, report it via the Hampshire Highways website, or (possibly more effectively)
  4. Report it via the “NEW FOREST IN TOUCH App” which you may install on your smartphone &/or tablet.

 ANNUAL CANVASS 2016

About now every household in NFDC will receive a Household Enquiry Form.  If there are no changes to made on the form the householder can confirm this by going on-line, texting, telephoning or by signing and posting back their form.  If there are changes to be made they may make these changes on-line or return the form back to NFDC, instructions are printed on the forms.  The form is an “enquiry” form to gather information of those registered at the property, it is not a registration form therefore does not add names to the register.  Once NFDC is informed of changes to the household and where there are additions, they will contact any new persons and invite them to register and supply their national insurance number and date of birth. The easiest and quickest way is to go on-line at www.newforest.gov.uk/register-to-vote

or pass details over the phone or supply them with a paper copy to complete.

Visit the NFDC website for further information http://www.newforest.gov.uk/annualcanvass.

THE NFNPA PROJECT “OUR PAST, OUR FUTURE”

All Saint’s Churchyard Memorials

This particular project is recording and mapping the memorials in All Saint’s, Minstead. We are going to need your help with collating information.

James Brown, the NPA archaeologist who is running the “Our Past, Our Future” project, has fixed a date of 24th September to have a day at All Saint’s to encourage people to have a look at the available data and see if they would like to become involved in helping All Saint’s gather the information needed.

James will be bringing along some very interesting displays and lots of information about how to help collate information for the Minstead churchyard memorials. There will also be NPA volunteers who will help to show us how to record memorials types, sizes, designs and condition both online or on paper. A photographer will be showing us how to take images of the memorials using a light source to enhance any written/drawn details on the stones.

Please do look out for further details about the day at Minstead Church on 24th September.

DEVOLUTION – SERVING HAMPSHIRE

Some may be interested to know that last week Hampshire County Council launched ‘Serving Hampshire’ asking for views on different ways that the County Council and the 11 district councils in Hampshire could change, or be reorganised. It runs until 20 September 2016.

THE SOLENT DEAL

Also of possible interest is the Solent Devolution Deal which is being progressed by Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight unitary authorities together with the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership. Details can be found using the link Solent Deal. No district councils are currently included within the Combined Authority deal but together with other districts in Hampshire are listed as possible associate members or observers.

VILLAGE SHOP AND TEAROOM

As most will know we say farewell to Jan and Nick Parker at the end of the month. Jan and her team of helpers have run the Shop and Tearoom for the last few years with a unique combination of friendliness and professionalism while Nick has been a great support behind the scenes. Come rain or shine, they have provided the Minstead community with an outstanding, welcoming and reliable service; and the fact that their tables and chairs are almost always occupied by happy and contented customers is a testament to the Shop’s growing popularity throughout the New Forest. Jan and Nick will be greatly missed by all and we wish them all good fortune for the future.

The new owners, Heidi and Andy Simpson, are looking forward to taking over and are busy learning the ropes. We shall hear more from them soon but they have asked us to inform everyone that they have taken the difficult decision to

close the shop from Monday 1st to Wednesday 3rd August to give them and their two small children time to settle in.

Newspapers will be cancelled for those three days so it may be wise to retrieve your coupons this week.

The Shop will re-open at 8.30am on Thursday 4th August.

VILLAGE FETE

As previously announced, this year’s Village Fete will be held on the Green from 12 noon to 5pm on Saturday 13th August.

The summer beer and cider festival will also be held that weekend in the Trusty.

All proceeds will go to the Minstead Defibrillator Fund and the Church.

If you have any books for the book stall please give these Steve (2 Congleton Close).

All contributions for the tombola should be dropped off with Alan Ferguson at Hurdles (if out please leave in blue box in garage!).
