ROYAL BRITISH LEGION
Thank you to everyone for their contribution to the British Legion Poppy appeal collection in Minstead, Stoney Cross and Emery Down this year. We raised a total of £ 959.43p through static and church collections and what with private donations from those living in the parish of over four hundred pounds for our silent soldier, in this centenary year the village has made a valuable contribution to the work of the British Legion – Thank you
Helen Bennett
Local Poppy Appeal Organiser

(and many thanks to Helen from all of us for organising this year’s appeal for Minstead!)

Again this year an invitation to share the remembrance of a loved one at Christmas.   The tree is decorated and in church already.  Fill in a name tag (names will not be read out) and help to decorate the tree.  Blank tags will be in a box on the front left pew on the nave, or use your own.  This year our service of readings and carols is at 4pm on Sunday 16th December.  Please do join us in a joyous Christmas celebration.

MINSTEAD PLAYERS – DON’T MISS THE NEXT PRODUCTION!

“Don’t Get Your Vicars in a Twist” is a classic over-the-top British farce, with bishops & actress, a par-boiled actor & rotting-drunk has-beens, impecunious parishioners lusting after their new female vicar, an (easy) lay-reader and a camped-up impresario putting on a Murderous Mystery Weekend for profit in the vicarage. With guaranteed twisting-of-knickers and dropping-of-trousers, what could the rude & prude punters deduce about village life and The Great Bard?

Our production features real trained farmers, doctors & nurses, pilots & soldiers and even vicars, (but no trained actors) so please support Minstead Players at the Village Hall on Friday 18th or Saturday 19th January at 7:30pm, tickets from The Trusty Servant make a great stocking-stuffer, or on the door.

CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL

MINSTEAD PLAYERS – A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY

“DON’T GET YOUR VICARS IN A TWIST “

by Ann Gawthorpe and Lesley Brown on Friday 18th January 2019 and Saturday 19 th January 2019 at 7.30 pm in Minstead Village Hall.

Minstead Players are rehearsing hard and they hope that once the Christmas celebrations are over you will join them in the hall to enjoy this amusing farce with plenty of action. Mistaken identities, confused and missing clergy with a series of doors being a strong feature in the plot.

Tickets will be in the Trusty Servant Public House from 1st December 2018. They will also be available on the door on the night.

Something to look forward to in January!

LANDSCAPES REVIEW – CALL FOR EVIDENCE

The Government has asked for an independent review of England’s National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) and wants everyone to have a chance to contribute, whether they live in a National Park or AONB, run a business in them, enjoy visiting, care about landscapes and biodiversity, or represent an organisation with views that might shape and improve our findings. It is being led by Julian Glover and if you want to find out more and give your views in an on line survey you can do so via the following link:

MINSTEAD COMMUNITY SHOP

As reported in the eNewsletter of 16th September and on the Village Website (click here) a Community Shop Working Group has been formed from a few of the volunteers who put their names forward in the survey in July/August.

The Group is exploring one or two ideas on what form a future shop might take and its possible location.

The Group believes that it is reaching the stage when it would be valuable to discuss options with the Community on the next steps.

With this in mind there will be a

Public Meeting in the Hall

on

Saturday 17th November 2018 at 2.30pm

If you have recently purchased a property in the New Forest you are probably aware of the special responsibilities that go with living in such a beautiful place. In case you are not sure there is a useful leaflet for newcomers (and indeed for all who live in the Forest) which provides advice and guidance for owners of properties adjoining the Open Forest. To read this visit:

BELL RINGERS REMEMBERED

Church bells were rung in celebration when Armistice was declared in 1918, after having been restricted during the four-year war. 1,400 bell ringers died in WW1. In remembering their sacrifice, the aim has been to recruit 1,400 new ringers this year.  Minstead has been able to make its contribution with 3 new recruits.

Hopefully they will be ringing on 11th November this year, as Big Ben strikes to mark the centenary of Armistice Day.

A note of thanks to those who live in ear-shot of the bells as the learning process proceeds. If you can’t beat them, why not join them? Anyone interested should contact Polly Osborne.

KAREN FRAMPTON

Local artist Karen Frampton is opening the doors of her art studio on 20th and 21st October 10am-5pm. She will be displaying her latest original artwork, many of local scenes. Everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy a cuppa with the artist at Woodside Cottage, Minstead SO43 7GB.
